RANCHI REGION:
Ananda Nagar is situated in a remote hilly area in the district of Purulia. Purulia is the poorest district of West Bengal. It has high rate of leprosy and other diseases caused by malnutrition. The Children Home is a pioneer service project. It serves the needs of the south-eastern states of India. Presently there are 62 boys in the age group 4 to 19 years in the home. Many of them are parentless. Few belong to very poor families. Some are born in the families where the parents have no capacity to bring them up properly. They do not have the means for the two ends to meet. Most of boys are from tribal and extremely poor families having no source of livelihood. The children home follows a disciplined life of a'shrma. The inmates follow a planned routine. The first lessons taught to them relate to personal hygiene. This includes practices like brushing the teeth, toilet habits and bathing apert from general hygiene. To bring them to the collective law flow of the children's home, they learn to invariably mediate twice a day. During long holidays they attend additional yoga a'sana and meditation sessions.
They are learning to play musical instruments and sing devotional songs. Here they learn the art of leading a collective life through group meditation and sports. A visitor to children home can not fail to be touched watching the tiny tots singing and mediating. The home serves only sattvika foods. Their daily routine provides ample opportunities for them to develop mutual understanding and family feeding of togetherness among themselves. The elder boys take care of the younger ones.
The home is managed by monks. There are three dedicated monks who look after the affairs. They are assisted by five dedicated home assistants who help in cooking, cleaning, gardening and miscellaneous farming/agricultural activities.
The school where the Children go for studies daily is just at a ten minutes walking distance from the home. The college is also situated near by. The children develop as very disciplined, industrious and obedient citizen. They learn to helpful and self-reliant. On completion of their graduation it is up to them to decide their future course of life. Some decide to work as full time volunteers and serve the poor people;some decide to work in service projects and others lead a family life while pursuing a carrer for their livelihood.
In May 2005 the speaker of Jharkhand Assembly Shrii I.S. Namdhari visited the children home. He appreciated performance of the children and the spritual environment in which they are being brought up. The average monthly expenditure of the home comes to Rs.70000/-. This includes expenses on food, toiletry, clothing, medicine, tuition and books. This is managed by generous contributions from philanthropic persons.
